Abstract:

PurposeThis viewpoint paper aims to review the book Imagine: How Creativity Works, by Jonah Lehrer.

Design/methodology/approachThis paper presents a review of a book on creativity.

FindingsThere are significant advances in understanding the brain and areas of functionality but while areas are better understood it is still no clearer on how creativity becomes manifest. In the second half of the book there is a nod towards creativity, in part, being a function of the community in which individuals operate. Concentration in cities becomes a driver and an environment for allowing individual and group creativity to emerge

Originality/valueThere is much which we do not as yet understand about how the mind functions, particularly in the area of creativity and it is a struggle to make sense even with modern tools for studying the mind/brain and observing human habitation patterns.
